Steff and I made it to the gym today! Go us! We had a great workout and pushed each other on our reps. Here’s hoping we can make it tomorrow too!
20 minutes on the elliptical to start
Single leg donkey kick machine (3 sets of 10 on each side) superset with squat machine (3 sets of 15 with heavy weight)
Leg extensions superset with calf raises (3 sets of 12)
Curtsy squats superset with wall sits into squat pulses (3 sets of 15)
stretch it out and feel the burn!
Also, on a side note, my child didn’t scream for longer than 10 minutes when it came time for naps today. Praise the Lord, this sleep training is working!
What day is it again?? oh yes, Wednesday, where I’m supposed to have a workout post. Well here’s the truth about that. My baby has been sick and I’ve been fighting something too. Oh and the direct tv people have been at my house the past two mornings for hours trying to get our system back up and running. Thanks to Jim for getting it going today at noon after 4 hours! Bless his heart, he replaced/repaired just about everything.
So I’ve worn workout clothes the past three days and haven’t worked out once. I did go for a walk on Monday, but seriously I need to get my gym act together. And just because I’m being honest, here is me in my gym clothes in front of the toilet that needs to be cleaned and has been on my to do list all week. Eeek!! Don’t mind the flannel shirt either, that is just me imagining it’s cold out there and I might need a jacket haha
And with that note, I’m off to clean toilets before RBB wakes up from his nap! Happy Wednesday folks! I hope you are exercising more than me this week.
This week has been a little off in the working out department so far. Couple that with eating whatever I wanted this weekend aka carbs, and I am a bit scared to get on the scale. Let’s just not do that, k? My folks were in town so we ate high on the hog, both at home and out to eat.
On to the workout!
Start with 10- 15 minutes on the stair climber to get your blood flowing.
Assisted pull-ups 3 sets of 10-12 superset with TRX lat pulls
We moved to machines next and did flies and chest press on the machines with heavy weight (3 sets of 10-12)
Next, we did the abductor and inductor machines (3 sets of 15 each with heavy weights)
Finish with Russian twists with a medicine ball and stretching out
This was a shorter workout than normal for us, but it was something! Goal is still gym at least two times a week (shooting for three times) and then walking, so being active for four days of the week.
It’s that time again, accountability time. I must admit I didn’t go to the gym on Monday, but I did do some baby weighted workouts at home. Rhett LOVES them! And since he doesn’t tend to spit up a ton, he does great with being hoisted in the air for shoulder presses, squat presses, etc.
Tuesday worked out, Wednesday worked out, and I’m shooting for Thursday too!
Started with 15 minutes of cardio to get the heart rate up then moved to single leg dumbbell Romanian dead lifts (3 sets of 12). These work balance, lower back, legs, booty aka are so good for you.
Next, we did a kettlebell circuit. Thanks Pinterest for the inspiration.
-kettlebell squats (hold kb high against your chest)
-2 arm kettlebell rows
-Russian twists with the kettlebell
My partner and I both used a 15lb kettlebell and switched to 12 lb dumbbells for the the 2 arm rows because they were easier to handle. Shoot for 3 sets of 12. We actually pushed for 15 on the last set. Ahh the benefits of working out with a partner!
Finish with butt bridges (normal and single leg extended). I love those obviously since I do them every workout!
Side note, I’ve never loved New Balance shoes mostly because I equate them to older folks aka my dad always bought the basic white and navy ones from Bass Pro (hi dad if you’re reading this). But my chiropractor suggested the NB minimus for better squatting form etc since they do not have a large sole height. Gotta say I love them! I have flat feet and these babies work well for me. So much so that I now have 3 pairs!
So far this has been a pretty normal workout week around here. Gym on Monday, light exercise Tuesday, gym again Wednesday, walking tomorrow, and should hit the gym once more on Friday! My workout partner will be gone on Friday so not sure what time we will make it to the gym, but it is in the plans!
Today we hit the stair master for some booty work. I hate that machine.. If you want to make it harder, kick your leg back each step (like a donkey kick) to really work your booty, but don’t accidentally kick anyone who might be walking behind you. I speak from experience here, that it is quiet awkward to say sorry for kicking you as you were walking in the gym!
After that we did some cable work and legs before butt bridges. I’m really into those right now.
10 minutes stair master
Cable flys low super set with tricep pull downs (3 sets of 12)
Lat pull downs super set with rowing machine (3 sets of 10 heavy weights)
Seated leg curls super set with leg extension machine (3 sets of 12)- on these two exercises, I pause at the top (for the leg extension) and the bottom (for the leg curls) to really feel the burn!
Finish with butt bridges and stretching out
And it’s Wednesday already! Didn’t catch Meal Planning Monday? Oh yes, it’s because I didn’t post it yet.. oops.. Still working on getting better about posting regularly. And I did meal plan btw, just didn’t post anything yet. Ok on to workouts.
Monday, I had a pretty clingy child so working out didn’t happen..
Tuesday, I did the 21 day fix 10 minute abs with my brother’s girlfriend as well as some yoga before Rhett wanted to be held.
Wednesday, guess who made it to the gym? This girl! I warmed up with 15 minutes of cardio on the elliptical arc trainer and then did some lat pulls, triceps, and legs.
15 minutes cardio
Superset lat pull downs & tricep pushdowns on cables (3 sets of 10-12)
Superset leg press & leg extension machines (3 sets of 10)
Superset barbell close grip upright rows with squats with barbell on shoulders (3 sets of 12- you can do it!)
Finish with butt bridges and stretching
My routine was a little off this week, but I should be able to hit the gym tomorrow and Friday to make up for it.
Also, on an unrelated note, I’m sure you have heard about the Nordstrom sale by now. It is all over bloggyland with everyone’s picks for Fall (my favorite season!! can’t wait). I just wanted to let everyone know that my live in leggings are on sale! I really do live in these leggings in the winter/fall. Not only that, they were part of my go to outfit while pregnant and fantastic for post-partum too. I might have ordered myself another pair (since I wear them so much), and wanted to let you all know about them as well. Normally priced at $52, they are on sale for $33.90. Snatch them up! This is the cheapest they will go on sale! The blue yoga pants in the above picture are also Zella. I’m a little obsessed with them.
Accountability at its finest. I’ll be updating the blog with what I really did as far as working out this week. I have been super excited about getting in a new workout routine now that I’m home so this little weekly post will keep me accountable to actually using my gym membership.
Typically, I try to workout with my friend Steph (my pregnancy workout partner if you remember her) on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 8:30 am. It’s pretty ambitious, but why not? It’s great to workout with a partner as they push you to do one last set or go for one more minute. This week, Steph was out of town so my routine has been off a bit, but that’s how life is.
I ran/walked on Monday with Rhett and Bear for about forty minutes in the sweltering heat. Ok it was in the morning at 9 am, but it was still HOT!
Tuesday I hit the gym on my own for a quick workout routine. Steph and I always do a bit of cardio to get our heart rate up and then hit the weights. I did about 15 minutes on the elliptical/arc trainer to warm up and then moved to the rowing machine. If you’ve never done the rowing machine, you should try it! It’s a good all over workout for legs, arms, back. It’s great! It was one of the things that my OB did not recommend while pregnant so it’s been a while since I’ve done it. After that I did a quick routine of deadlifts, curls, and good mornings before stretching out and collecting Rhett from childcare.
15 minutes cardio
5 minutes rowing machine (no stopping)
3 sets of 10-12 reps of bicep curls with barbell, deadlifts, and good mornings (I used a 30lb straight barbell but use what you are comfortable with)
And since this post is all about accountability, I am back to my pre-pregnancy weight, but not my pre-pregnancy shape. My goal is to get back my muscles that I had before having Rhett by 9 months.
Thursday, I am going walking with a friend and Friday, I’ll be working out at the gym again. Leave me a comment if you are working out this week too! Happy Wednesday, friends
What is it about summer that is making me lazy? I haven’t wanted to do much of anything. We were super busy the first part of the summer, and now I’m more than happy to have nothing on the schedule. Even cooking seems like such a large task so forget about updating the blog like I should. I just want to lay by the pool and listen to Eric Church while soaking up some rays. That is exactly what I plan on doing with Steph this weekend 🙂
Speaking of lazy, here is what went down this past week/weekend:
Brett came in to town Wednesday night to pack up and move to Denver permanently. We are so proud of him and this new opportunity he has in his job. Naturally, we hit the gym together and then Genghis Grill since Denver doesn’t have Genghis.
Thursday night we hit the gym again then Charlestons for a late dinner. We will miss that guy!
Brett did leave us a bag and a half of frozen tilapia that wouldn’t have made the 12 hour drive very well so Brian and I are putting it to good use. Ignore that cheese on the broccoli and this would be a clean meal 🙂
Breakfast in bed on Sunday morning for no reason thanks to Brian
I’m all over these summer fruits that are in season
Monday night I got to snuggle with this baby girl. I fed her a bottle, burped her, and got her to sleep. I was pretty proud 🙂
Smiling baby girl
So that is my random post for the day 🙂 Not too much going on around here…
Yes, I know its Wednesday and this post should have been made more like on a Monday or Tuesday.. Oh well..
This weekend was crazy busy for us, but I thoroughly enjoyed it! Friday night after work, we hustled to Scarlett’s apartment to move her to her new house (she lives with a couple who just bought their first home) which just happens to be on our street! Seriously, I could not be more excited to have her so close! Cue late night hangouts and working out together 🙂
Saturday, promptly at 7:45 am, we were at our concealed carry class. It was early squirrely but so worth it. I loved the class and highly recommend Guardian Shooting Solutions if you are looking to carry in the Tulsa area. Jeremiah is a NRA certified instructor and very knowledgeable about all things guns and self defense. Not to mention, you wouldn’t want to mess with him! The class lasted all day, and I feel like I absorbed so much from Jeremiah’s instruction. In fact, I met a girl friend at the class, and we both signed up for another class, Personal Protection: Effective Threat Management. I can’t wait! I’m becoming a woman obsessed… I just need to decide on the proper gun now!
See those holes in the head? They were rapid fire, and I’m proud of them 🙂
After our concealed carry class and a quick workout we met Paul and Elissa for dinner at the Cheesecake Factory then hit a late night movie. Home Run is an inspirational Christian film that showcases the freedom and hope offered by Jesus Christ. It was produced by local Tulsan, Tom Newman and Impact Productions (who also did Toymaker’s Dream which I grew up watching at my grandparents). I’m all about supporting a good cause, and Home Run was filmed in Oklahoma and we even knew some of the people in the movie!

I am aware that my shoulders look very broad in this picture. It’s from the lifting, and I don’t mind it. See picture below:
Sunday morning, this obsessed woman hit Walmart at 7 am to buy ammo. Thankfully, Brian was sweet enough to come with me so I was able to get 6 boxes! Since we were up so early, I decided to make protein pancakes to thank Brian for getting ammo with me. I’ll definitely post the recipe since I finally found a recipe that would be more suitable for feeding a family rather than the typical makes 3 pancakes recipes.
Yes, I was learning from my new gun friends
Such good pancakes served with light syrup
After church we hit the dog park to wear Bear out a bit then back to church for Big Team which thanked all the current volunteers and encouraged people to sign up for a team at church. And I decided to come home and make kale chips after church. They were so good!! I was shocked, really. They tasted a bit like my mom’s homemade popcorn with the oil and salt mixture so I ate half the pan that night.
Before cooking the kale chips.. After cooking they shrink so much
It was a wonderfully busy weekend, but I definitely have bags under my eyes from lack of sleep!
I follow a bunch of very fit people on instagram. It is inspiring to me to see their workout posts, recipe posts, get your booty to the gym posts, etc. You might have noticed the protein recipes that have been consuming my recipe posts on the blog as of late all thanks to stalking fit people on IG 🙂 But really, if you are having trouble finding the time or inspiration to go workout, you should follow some fit people on IG. It will help you push past the excuses and make time to get to the gym!
All that to say, here is a new recipe I found and adapted to make clean Pina Colada Ice Cream. Soo yummy and full of good protein!
1 Chobani Greek yogurt pineapple flavored cup
1/2 can pineapple chunks (no sugar added) with half of the juice included
1 cup almond milk
1 scoop of vanilla protein powder (I use syntha-6)
Sprinkle of coconut
5-6 ice cubes
Blend until smooth
Freeze for two hours so it is slushy
Add some more pineapple chunks on top and Enjoy!
And this was not one of those recipes where my husband’s response was “that tasted healthy…” because you better believe he has responded to me like that on some recipes that didn’t make it to the blog. He really liked this recipe, so you should give it a try!
