Well my husband declared this Fourth of July as the best ever, and I have to agree! Rhett is learning so much every day so everything is awe-inspiring to him. I love watching him learn and experience new things. We went to Cracker Barrel for breakfast together then to our friends for a lunch cookout (I forgot to take pics there), and finally to the Patriot for food trucks and fireworks with friends. Rhett tried his first popsicle and saw fireworks for the first time and wasn’t scared! Needless to say, he had a blast so prepare for picture overload from our day.
Also, this post is a week later than I wanted to publish it, but such is life when your kid is down to one nap for 1.5 hours a day :/ Photo credits to Scarlett since she was able to get Rhett to smile in our family pics towards the end of the night even when he hadn’t taken a nap all day long. Best laid plans sometimes fail..
Once Rhett found the basketball goal, we couldn’t keep him away!
Our little pumpkin turned ONE this weekend! It seems like it wasn’t that long ago that we were bringing him home from the hospital. Now he’s running around like a little boy and it’s just so crazy.
We celebrated his birthday with Nana & Pawpaw on Saturday so they could have some quality time with him. His actual party is not for a couple weeks but they wanted him to open his presents from them closer to his actual birthday. Rhett is super in to the vacuum so when they asked what he wanted, we suggested a kid vacuum. He loved it! Coupled with some pots and pans for stirring (he’s all about stirring these days) and he was in hog heaven.
Uncle Grant & Aunt Taylor came to visit him on his birthday 🙂
Sunday, we let him try birthday cake for the first time at our friend’s Super Bowl Party. Safe to say he loved it! Hopefully he will remember how much he likes it when I’m trying to get him to eat his smash cake at his party.
This weekend was so nice to just relax and hang out with my little family. Brian brought home burgers on Friday night from a quaint little place called Hatfield’s Hamburgers. I have never been in person, but the burger was great! I want to go in next time and try the bbq. Any hole in the wall that shows Andy Griffith during dinner is my kind of place.
Saturday we lounged around the house until after RBB’s first nap when we hit the gym together. That evening I made homemade pizza (and forgot to take a pic) and we had some friends over for dinner. Did you know that you could make pizza dough in your Vitamix? Me either, but it was super easy and turned out well.
We introduced Rhett to cow’s milk this weekend since he is almost one. He liked it ok. My kid doesn’t drink anything all that well still so he mostly played with the sippy cup. Not exactly sure how to deal with that when it comes time to wean him..
Like I said, playing with his sippy cups.. If anyone has any tips, I’m all ears on how to get him to drink milk, water or even eat more in general. He is just not super interested in it although I give him tons of opportunities to eat and drink.
On Monday, Rhett and I both kind of came down with the sniffles so we are trying to fight off whatever this is. Nobody’s got time for sickness around here! That’s a wrap on our weekend.
We had a super week this week as RBB was finally feeling better, yay! And it was finally cold!! I loved it!! Unfortunately, it’s supposed to be in the nineties this week again 🙁 ugh.. Please be cold for real and stop teasing me, weather!
Guys.. I’ve been so bad about posting lately. I’m pretty much giving up on meal planning Monday. Not that I’m not cooking still, but so many times my recipes are just normal. I’ve decided to only post recipes that I really love and will definitely make again.
This weekend we did a whole lotta nothing, and I loved it! Brian asked me what I wanted to do, and I suggested a family walk, but it rained so default next activity was a family nap. Rhett even went with the plan and mama got an hour nap! woohoo!
Thursday night we went to Oliveto with Todd & Scarlett. We were so that table with two babies out past their bed times and making a hot mess with their food. It was great fun though just being together.
Also, public service announcement about the pumpkin spice lattes: Starbucks sells the pumpkin syrup!! I’ve tried other pumpkin syrup and have not been impressed, but this will be epic! I “might” have purchased some and will let you know if it is as wonderful as it sounds to make PSLs at home and save my money.
My sweet friend Karis made my day on Friday by sending me this adorable mom shirt! “Surviving motherhood on grace & coffee,” perfect for me! and it’s oh so soft too.
Friday night I made Southwestern stuffed sweet potatoes, and RBB gobbled them up. Just this week he has started to eat more “real food” which equals more laundry for this mama. Whew that boy can make a mess!
Saturday, we had Chloe’s birthday party, and I forgot to take pictures! Rhett loves Chloe because we see her at the gym a couple times a week. Both her and Taylor are so sweet to Rhett 🙂 We ended the night watching the Hogs game, and let’s not talk about that one.. It was a rough night for Brian.
Sunday was church and the arrival of cooler temps! Praise the Lord, it felt like fall. Ok well maybe I was dreaming it felt cooler than it really did. But I did make white bean chicken chili since we had cooler temps!
Rhett’s latest thing that is so fun is when Bear or Brian comes in the room, he gets so excited and squeals and tries to fast crawl to me before they get him. It’s so cute and funny at the same time. I’m loving this age right now. He has so much personality, and I love watching him grow into such a big boy.
Ok this post has been sitting in my draft folder because I’ve been terrible about blogging lately!! So this might have been from the first weekend in September……………….. yikes!
This weekend my sis and her husband came to visit and my parents did too. It was so much fun! So busy but so fun!! I wish they lived closer to us so we could do it more often. My parents got in late Thursday night and we stayed up too late chatting. The next morning we went to the mall to look for jeans for my dad and tried on every brand in Dillards. Did we come away with jeans from there? Sadly, no. Did we have some awesome commentary that I wish I would have filmed? Absolutely. My dad is just a little bit picky when it comes to jeans. They cannot be too low, too tight, or feel like pajamas. Shouldn’t be too hard, but the “feeling like pajamas” category was killing our shopping trip, not to mention, cracking my mom and I up the whole day! After that we went to Goldie’s (for the best cheeseburger in town in my opinion) and baby tried his first pickle. It was great! That evening my mom and I (mostly my mom) made homemade pizza.
The next day, Hayley and Bryce flew in to town. We had a big brunch at the house and enjoyed some back porch sitting while the weather was cool (please come back cool weather), before hitting Namebrand Clothing. Anyone who knows us will tell you that my family loves Namebrand. The thrill of the hunt coupled with being together can’t be beat. Besides, you never know what the Lord may provide.
We had such a great day: shopping, walking, painting, eating. It was perfect! My mom brought up some canvases and all her paints so we could have our own Pinot’s Palette party.
I love every one of our paintings! So unique and different.
The next morning after church, I forced everyone to go to Williams Sonoma for their open house. The whole store was decked out for fall. I CANNOT WAIT for fall!
We had a small get together Sunday night for folks to see Hayley and Bryce and watch football and the Miss USA pageant. We were so sad Miss Tulsa didn’t get to the talent part because she is a wonderful pianist!
Monday we went to brunch with Bryce and Hayley and Christina at First Watch. So good and the babies did well then back home for naps. That afternoon, Hayley and I went to the magical world of Costco. I still don’t have a card yet and don’t quite know if I need one yet, but I enjoyed walking around the store!
and just like that our weekend was over. We had so much fun with family!
Friday started off a very chill weekend for us, and I loved it! It was National Dog Day so of course I took some pics of Rhett with his dog.
Rhett tried spaghetti for the first time, but he wasn’t a fan. Brian and I have been watching Making a Murderer on Netflix, so that has pretty much consumed our evenings.
Saturday, I made “real” breakfast for Brian and baby and then we went for donuts! We aren’t giving Rhett sugar yet, but I am excited for when he can enjoy donuts with me 🙂
For the first time this week, I hit the gym *cue the Hallelujah chorus* before hanging out with some girlfriends where we ate pizza & ice cream. So basically I negated that workout, but we had a great time together.
Sunday after church, I met up with some friends at Utica Square for some shopping and much needed girl time. We hit up Kendra Scott for a party that Scarlett won so we all got 15% off our purchase (woohoo!) and then walked around some of the other shops too.
Brian and Rhett had some man time, and I came home to a sleeping baby. Yay! I cooked dinner before hitting up Andy’s for a key lime pie custard and then finished the Making of a Murderer. Gotta say I didn’t love the ending.. I think I was hoping for a different outcome.
Friday night we attended a party for our friend Paul’s 31st birthday. His mother in law makes the BEST chicken enchiladas so I definitely chowed down on those. I really need to get that recipe! Rhett decided he didn’t want to nap on Friday and we had a rough night the night before so mama needed some enchiladas and time with her friends. Side note, my baby is definitely regressing on sleep lately. Could be allergies, could be teething, but coffee is my best friend right now.
Saturday, Brian let me sleep in (thanks babe!) before his parents came up to visit. We ran around town with them before ending our evening at Charlestons and Andy’s.
Sunday, I cooked brunch after church and we just chilled until our friends came over for dinner that night. I’m ashamed to admit that we might have gone went to Andy’s again Sunday night.
My parents came up this weekend for a short fishing trip to Arkansas. The boys set out bright and early on Saturday morning for Beaver Lake. When I say early, I mean 2:30 am to get on the water by 5:30 am. Way too early for this, mama!
My mom and I enjoyed coffee on the patio at a normal waking hour and then met my brother’s girlfriend to shop for a bit. The fishermen were triumphant and caught 135 lbs of striped bass. I guess the early bird does get the worm. And on that note, does anyone want any fish??
Dad & I had the joyous job of re-packaging 135 lbs of fish to go in the freezer. Bear was just waiting for a morsel to drop. My mom prepared a fish feast on Saturday night for everyone, and it felt like we were back in Florida on vacation.
Dede worked with Rhett all weekend on crawling, and he almost has it down. Give him a week, and he will be crawling all over this house. He also discovered that he could stand up in his crib on Saturday. Lord help us, I’m not ready for that!
After a nap on Sunday, we drove to Arkansas to attend a funeral the next day. Rhett does not love the car seat so we planned to go close to bed time, but he screamed any way. Apparently, he gets that from me.. oops.
It was so nice to see both sides of the family this weekend, but due to Rhett HATING the car seat, I don’t see us traveling anywhere soon in the distant future..
A couple weekends ago, my family took a trip to Beaver Lake in Arkansas. We’ve made this trip before and it is always a good time of relaxation with the family. The boys “fish” all weekend and the girls relax with walks, crafting, and chick flicks. I say “fish” loosely since they never seem to catch much, regardless of paying Big Bob, the fishing guide, to take them to the honey hole spots. At least they have fun being out on the lake though?
We started the weekend off at AQ Chicken House in Springdale, Arkansas. It was so good, and we were so hungry since it was nearly 3 pm before we ate lunch.
Brian and I wanted to stop by Pinnacle Hills Mall to look for boots and a really cute shirt that could only be found in Arkansas so we dropped our “kid” off with mom and dad and made our escape to the mall. Brian found a fabulous deal on some outdoorsy boots that were $180, but on sale for $43.00! Unfortunately, I had to order my shirt online because no stores in Arkansas had it.
Two of my favorite things- Arkansas and the Irish
We made it back to the house around 6 pm. It was rainy the first evening, but we still enjoyed the view. We made dinner and played games that evening before the boys had to go to bed for their early morning fishing trip.
For the record, I am the purple piece and pretty much stayed there the entire game! Dad whooped us in this game without even trying.
The next day, the boys headed out in the cold to fish and the girls slept in. We made breakfast, took a walk, and watched Anne of Green Gables while making bunny ear napkin ring holders.
It was pretty cold on our boat ride
These turned out soo cute! I’m glad I did not pay $8 per napkin ring at Pier 1!
That night my dad grilled steaks and we enjoyed hanging out together. The next morning the boys went “fishing” again. More walks and Anne of Green Gables for the girls. Brian left to go home on Sunday, but we spent one more relaxing evening there.
gorgeous views on a boat ride

finally wearing makeup for a pic with my brother
We went in to Rogers to shop for a bit before heading home. The boys spent the entire time at Cabela’s, while my mom and I shopped all the stores in the Pinnacle Hills mall. We had pizza in Springdale and finally made it home. It was such a great weekend relaxing with my family 🙂
