DIY painted sign

When we were in Texas over the 4th of July, we toured my cousin’s new house.  I fell in love with a cute sign she had in her daughters’ room and decided I could paint that in colors that would match Rhett’s nursery.  I set out to Hobby Lobby for some paint, because I had an old canvas from my office at work.  While at Hob Lob, I actually found a bigger canvas marked way down because it was ugly.  Knowing that I was going to be painting the canvas navy, I knew I could paint over it and have a bigger sign that was closer to my cousin’s sign.  Score!

This canvas literally ate up an entire bottle of navy paint!  It just kept soaking it in.  I probably did 4 coats on the canvas before it covered the ugly design.  Once I got it completely covered in navy, I drew the design out in chalk based off the picture I had taken of the original.  The chalk was super helpful in spacing out the words and making the font style the same as the original.  I did some cute gold and white dots and called it done! I love the results!
